The St. Michael’s development in Manchester has been a highly anticipated project, and it’s exciting that it’s nearing completion. Located in the heart of the city, this mixed-use development has been in the works for several years. The project is set to include luxury apartments, office spaces, retail, and leisure facilities, all designed to enhance the city’s skyline and create a new vibrant hub for residents and visitors alike.
The development has had its share of controversies and redesigns, particularly concerning its impact on the historic cityscape and the blending of modern architecture with Manchester’s heritage buildings. Now, with the finish line in sight, it is expected to bring a significant boost to the city, attracting new businesses and creating a lively social scene.
JHCS played a crucial role in delivering all the HV and LV power within St. Michael’s.
Co-ordinating with the M&E contractor A&B Engineering Ltd, DJPS and the builder Bowmer and Kirkland to ensure smooth transition of power from the DNO network into the private Transformers. Managing the transfer and control of power between the Distribution Network Operator (DNO) and the various transformers for the landlord and tenants requires careful planning and execution to ensure reliable and safe power distribution.
JHCS ensured that the cable installation aligned with the overall project schedule by coordinating with contractors and supplying all materials.
High-voltage (HV) cables were installed and cleated on to ladder racks, with each termination tested for integrity to meet safety and performance standards.
For HV testing and commisioning, DJPS a regular partner JHCS work alongside, performing insulation resistance and continuity checks, followed by high-voltage tests. Thorough documentation of all testing results will be maintained for compliance and future maintenance.
We also carefully installed low-voltage (LV) cables throughout the building to support life safety systems and sub mains power, ensuring durability and reliable performance for years to come. A&B Engineering carried out testing of every circuit throughout the building.
JHCS is proud to have been a key contributor to this iconic project and we thank A&B Engineering for the opportunity to work alongside them on yet another great project.
JHCS look forward to sharing more completed projects with you soon!
