JHCS Completes Glasgow Gretna 400kV Substation Installation

JHCS proudly contributed to the successful installation of the new Glasgow Gretna 400kV substation infrastructure. Our teams were responsible for the comprehensive installation of the LV and HV cabling across the site.

Throughout the project, we meticulously installed thousands of meters of cable, ensuring durability and safety standards were met. The cable work was divided into key segments:

  • Shunt Works: Comprising of LV AC cables, DC cables, and multicore cables
  • Sync Works: Comprising of DC multicore cabling and AC cabling
  • High Voltage (HV) Cable: 630 single-core cables

Our operatives are SPEN trained, which enabled us to carry out this complex and careful work with precision and compliance to all safety and technical standards.

This project aligns with Scotland’s strategic focus on energy storage solutions, as highlighted by the Scottish Energy and Climate Change Directorate in its Draft Energy Strategy and Just Transition Plan (January 2023). Energy storage, particularly battery storage, is emphasised as a crucial technology for the country’s transition to renewable energy. The infrastructure we helped install supports this transition by enabling enhanced energy management and storage capabilities across Scotland.
